A huge fire has broken out at a hotel near Eastbourne Pier this morning.
15 fire engines as well as ambulances have been sent to The Claremont hotel in Grand Parade.
Smoke and flames have been seen billowing out of the building since around 9am.
We the Euro Weekly News called Eastbourne resident Rob Mcfagan who lives nearby in the retirement town of England he said “It’s absolutely massive, it’s all going off here! It started at the back of the hotel, now the whole front of the hotel is going up in flames. There are people are running around everywhere whilst fire fighters are attacking the fire and using pumps on the sea front, there’s loads and loads of smoke filling the town air.”
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it is attending the scene. The service said on Twitter, “Please avoid the area. Everyone’s been evacuated safely.”
Rob went onto say ” Clearly the hotel fire warning and evacuation process worked as there’s loads of guests out the front on the street”
“The fire at present is still raging and the roof has totally gone now from the hotel building- I can’t see it being out for a few hours yet” Rob ended with as he promised to keep us updated.
