METROPOLITAN Police Commissioner Cressida Dick has confirmed this evening that two people were killed and a number of others were injured in today’s terrorist attack on London Bridge.

Dick reaffirmed that the attack was being treated as a terrorist incident and asked for the public’s help in combating extremism. The Commissioner added that the ideology behind terrorism will never succeed.

At a news conference, Cressida Dick said:“Two of those injured in this attack in the London Bridge area have tragically lost their lives.”

Earlier, the Metropolitan Police said the man with a hoax device strapped to his chest was shot dead by police officers, with footage filmed at the scene showing the suspect being wrestled to the ground by members of the public on the northern end of London Bridge.

The police have not commented further on the motive of the attack, but Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu told a press conference on Friday afternoon that in response they would enhance patrols in the area and across the city.
