A MAN who murdered his heavily pregnant ex-wife using a crossbow in a “brutal and evil attack” has been jailed for life.

Sana Muhammad was shot in the abdomen by Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo at her Ilford home in London, England, in November 2018.

The court at the Old Bailey heard that Unmathallegadoo hid in the shed at his ex-partner’s garden, armed with two crossbows, bolts, a knife, duct tape, cable ties and a hammer. He then burst into the home of mother-of-five who was 8 months pregnant at the time, firing an arrow into her stomach as she fled upstairs.

Mrs Muhammad’s second husband Imtiaz told the court that he thought that he was “dreaming” when he saw the defendant step out of the shed armed with two crossbows, shouting at his wife to run.

The woman suffered catastrophic internal injuries according to the coroner, while her unborn son was delivered by emergency caesarean, miraculously surviving the attack.

Jurors heard that the couple’s relationship ended in 2012 and at the time of the attack, Unmathallegadoo was the subject of a court order which banned him from going within 100 metres of his ex-wife’s home.

Unmathallegadoo had denied murder and claimed that he went to the house to talk to Mr Muhammad about his daughter’s religion. The jury disagreed, reaching their verdict in five hours.

Handing down the life sentence, Judge Mark Lucraft said:

“You have carefully planned this attack. You had two loaded crossbows and I’m entirely satisfied you intended an attack on Sana and then on Imtiaz.”

We at Euro Weekly News understand that Unmathallegadoo will serve at least 33 years in prison for the attack.
