A SECTION of the road that travels along the beach of Playa de Palma in Mallorca, Spain, will prohibit cars from 10am to 2pm every Sunday from December 8 to February 23. As reported by the Association of Hoteliers of Playa de Palma, the closure, which will run from Balneario 15 to the Torrent dels Jueus, has been introduced so that residents can move around in a vehicle-free space and enjoy the area in a peaceful and safe way. With support of Palma City Council, the initiative aims to encourage people to walk and play sports, where activities will be organised for the community during the closure. This will include a Nordic Walking Day on December 15 which leaves from Palma Aquarium at 10.30am. Isabel Vidal, the President of the association, has indicated that their objective is for “families to walk in front of the sea, have breakfast on terraces and eat at the restaurants in the area.”
