School classes were suspended at Calpe’s Ifac secondary school in Costa Blanca, Spain, after a teacher collapsed in a corridor at 8am before lessons began. Colleagues attempted to come to his aid and quickly took him outside so that pupils were not aware of what had happened. Ambulances arrived almost immediately, but paramedics were unable to revive the 50-year-old teacher who is believed to have suffered a heart attack. They were called on to assist a woman teacher who had fainted on witnessing the episode and the Red Cross mobilised a counselling team of psychologists and nurses for pupils and staff.
