El Ingenio will get a makeover after 20 years
EL INGENIO shopping centre will see a drastic €15 million renovation to mark the landmark’s 20 Anniversary. The Town Hall in Vélez Málaga has given the go ahead for the modernisation and expansion of the popular shopping centre. The centre has been the main shopping spot in Axarquía for the last two decades and is the main employment generator in the region, offering 700 direct jobs and creating another 500 indirect jobs. With this new project, El Ingenio hopes to offer better and broader services, be easily accessible and integrate technology. Another aspect that will be worked on is making the complex more sustainable and ecological, as well as safer. Promoters highlight the much-needed update in order to face the new challenges and competitors in the market, especially the rise of electronic commerce. Open since 2000, the commercial complex will now incorporate charging points for electric vehicles, add extra parking, modernise bathrooms and plant native plants in the gardens to reduce water consumption. Owner Salsa Patrimonio has released a video that celebrates the 20 Anniversary of business and recreates the renovations of the premises in detail.
