Costa Blanca News: Refilling the sand

Regression in the shoreline: Decrease in sand SOURCE: Facebook

SAND levels on the beach of Arraijanal have returned to normal after the Ciriana environmental association and the Churriana neighborhood association pointed out that they had noticed a great regression in the shoreline.
The Councilor for the Environment, Gemma del Corral, explained yesterday that the works have been carried out largely through help from the Ayuntamiento. We have made the contribution of sand to the beach. It was up to the central government through Costas but we have done a great job”.
Last June, the Demarcación de Costas responded to the complaints from residents and ecologists regarding the regression of the beach of Arraijanal.
Specifically, Costas blamed this problem on the urbanization of a good part of the Guadalhorce river delta by the urbanizations of Guadalmar and Sacaba Beach, as well as the partial channeling of the river to avoid flooding of industrial estates.
“This has caused, along with other things, a significant decrease in sediments ordinarily carried by the river,” said Costas in the response to the Churriana groups.
