MORE than 400 residents joined Calpe town hall’s communications scheme in its first two weeks. The response has been even better than expected, the town hall said, especially as the system uses Telegram, which is less extended than WhatsApp.The town hall had also intended to use WhatsApp but decided to use only Telegram following the announcement that WhatsApp would be banning mass-messaging after December 7. Telegram is one of the best and most effective channels for sending alerts in emergency situations rapidly and directly to local residents, municipal sources said. As algorithms introduced in the social media mean that not all published material reaches users, not all town hall information reaches the public, they explained. The town hall’s Communications department also intends to launch new ways of reaching residents. These will include a newsletter, or digital bulletin, with a resumé of the most relevant municipal information which is now sent out to 800 peopleeach week.Readers who are interested in receiving this bulletin can register on the: www.calp.es/es/content/newsletterwebsite.
