THE ‘Sabores Almeria’ food fair in Almeria city ended with record visitor numbers and sales success, the provincial government reported. Staged over the bank holiday weekend in the provincial capital’s central Paseo de Almeria, this, the sixth edition of the event, attracted some 70,000 tourists and residents, according to the Diputacion’s calculations. Many of the fairgoers went home with purchases from one of the 35 participating business’s stands. “The companies are very happy with the great sales figures and because they are making their products known directly to consumers and to the tourists visiting over this bridging holiday”, commented provincial government Agro-food Promotion deputy Antonio J. Rodriguez. “This will mean the flavours of the province are known both inside and beyond our borders”, he added. The deputy also highlighted the importance of the food tastings the various companies offered, pointing out they are “the direct way of introducing their products to the consumer.” Rodriguez said the Diputacion was very proud of how this year’s food fair had gone, remarking that it had become Almeria’s big event of the early December bank holiday. The Diputacion stressed the Sabores Almeria initiative is all about promoting the socioeconomic development of inland areas of the province and small and medium-sized agro-food businesses.
