The shocking incident sent shockwaves through the Vilobí d’Onyar community in Girona, Spain, yesterday (December 13), as police reported that a 5-and 7-year old girl had been violently killed, allegedly at the hands of their mother.

According to reports, the children’s father made the harrowing discovery as he returned home, finding the corpses of his daughters with obvious signs of violence. The mother subsequently attempted to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge on the AP-7 where she was struck by a lorry.

The woman was rushed by helicopter to Josep Trueta University Hospital where medical personnel revealed that she was in a critical condition after the impact. However, due to the severity her injuries, she died a few hours later.

According to the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia, the family of Spanish nationality had lived in the house since 2014 and there were no incidents of violence reported to the police in the past.
