MORAIRA’S 300 Millas A3 regatta sets out on January 22. Yachts compete with crews of three over the 300 sea miles (555.6 kilometres) of the Grefusa Trophy race, which the organisers, Club Nautico Moraira, describe as one of the Valencian Community’s most emblematic. It is also as complicated and tough as any that are organised anywhere in the Mediterranean, partly because of the time of the year when it is held, as the weather is likely to bring surprises, the club said. “This puts the three crew members on each boat in some really tight situations either because of high winds, or the complete opposite, totally calm seas,” a spokesman explained. The regatta, whose principal sponsor is once again Grefusa, will also have collaboration from Teulada-Moraira town hall and the Regulatory Council of D.O. Valencian Wines as well as the Valencian Community’s Sailing Federation. The race is one of the few that, as well as a trophy, gives cash prizes, with €3,000 for the winner, €2,000 for second place and €1,000 for third. There is also a special trophy presented by Moraira’s Club Nauticofor the yacht that completes the 300-sea mile route in the shortest space of time.
