A LONE sailor sent out an SOS on finding himself in difficulties near the mouth of the River Gorgos in Javea. Salvamento Maritimo (Maritime Rescue) sources said later that the sailor had contacted the 112 Emergency Services number at 5pm, asking to be towed to safety. His boat, a light catamaran, was adrift after losing its mast, he told them, and was out of control off the rivermouth at the southern end of Javea’s La Grava beach. The Emergency Services in turn alerted the Salvamento Maritimo service which sent out the Salvamar Mirfak rescue vessel to collect the sailor and tow his catamaran back to port.
