THE Poble Nou de Benitatxell council has begun works to replace electrical cabling in the Valle del Portet urbanisation following a series of robberies.
The local authority said the thefts had caused power cuts to public street lighting.
As well as putting in new cabling, the company carrying out the job is installing new covers on the cables boxes with a view to deterring thieves from having another go.
The council explained that while the thefts had been a few month back, the decision was taken to delay the repairs until an effective, long-term solution had been found to prevent further incidents.
“We have been studying the formula in order that this does not happen again in the future”, commented Urbanisations coucillor Mayte Roldan.
The councillor also expressed the local authority’s apologies to residents for the nuisance caused.
