World News:Couple Find Wedding Rings In Landfill After Searching Through 30 Tonnes Of Rubbish

An Australian couple feared the worst when they realized that their diamond wedding and engagement rings were missing.

A couple who thought they’d lost their wedding rings forever after accidentally throwing them away, have experienced a Christmas miracle, after their local council managed to spot them amidst 30 tonnes of rubbish. The pair, who wish to remain anonymous, were renovating their home in Melbourne, Australia, taking time to drop rubbish off at their local council depot, when they realised their rings had accidentally been swept into a rubbish bag inadvertently during a tidy up.

Stonnington Council in Malvern, Melbourne’s council spokesperson Jim Carden explained: “The couple drove home and then realised that night that they had inadvertently swept up the wife’s wedding and engagement rings into a pink garbage bag”. On realising what they’d done, they made a panicked call to the council and were told to head down to the tip the following morning at 4am.

The couple were lucky enough to have the help of four council workers, Macca, Rick, Barry and Dave, who were able to find which truck the couple’s rubbish was likely to be in before it was shipped off elsewhere. “Our boys went above and beyond by backing the truck back up into a safe area and gently disgorging its contents,” Mr Carden commented. “And, low and behold, there was the pink garbage bag with the tissues and rings still inside, so they were happily reunited with their sentimental valuables.”

But Mr Carden urged people to take care of their belongings, because this positive outcome is not a common one.
