IT has been 7 years since Mallorca resident and much loved dentist Suso Àlvarez changed a little boy’s life whilst volunteering in Africa.
Little Buba arrived at a hospital in Senegal wrapped in his father’s arms, with doctor’s giving him just 6 days to live. The poorly 17-month-old was diagnosed with an incurable disease where an infection had spread to his bones.
Soon Suso released that Buba would not only require life-long treatment and countless operations, but that in his home country he did not stand a chance of survival.
Longing to make a difference, Suso founded Amigos de Buba, which raised enough money to allow Buba and his father to get the medical attention he desperately needed in Mallorca.
This was the beginning of all things to come, as Buba continues to bravely battle his condition and dreams one day of training at the UIB to be a chef.
Speaking to Suso he explained that “Buba is the origin of this association and we will be by his side every step of the way.”
Suso’s inspiring actions continue in Senegal where “today Amigos de Buba has 2 dental clinic trucks, an ambulance and dental chairs in a medical centre” and the “NGO also plans to build a school for orphaned children and those with leprosy.”
