SMALL businesses in Vera have received early Christmas gifts from the local council.
The local authority’s Trade department has given out free traditional Festive Season poinsettias and red carpets to decorate shops and outlets.
The ‘pascuero para tu comercio en Navidad’ campaign is aimed at helping to boost sales among small concerns over the Christmas period.
Trade councillor Ana Lourdes Ramirez and Town Hall staff personally delivered the plants and carpets to the more than 150 businesses which signed up to the initiative.
The councillor expressed her satisfaction at the “exceptional reception to the campaign among businesses.”
The council has handed out more than 250 poinsettias in all and some 100 metres of carpet.
The local authority said the initiative was just a part of an extensive programme aimed at securing a bumper Christmas season for municipal businesses, which also includes street processions, games and entertainment for children and shop window dressing competitions.
