THERE is set to be a cracking boom to Christmas trade in Alicante with plans for two loud pyrotechnics events in the city’s Plaza de los Luceros.
The ‘mascletas’ are scheduled for December 31 and January 4 at 2pm.
Alicante council spokesman Manuel Villar said the decision to put on the firecracker spectaculars had been a response to requests from small businesses and to try and help reactivate trade during the Festive Season.
Villar highlighted the point that the second mascleta will be on a Saturday and just before the Three Kings bank holiday, traditionally the big Christmas present giving day in Spain.
He also said the two pyrotechnic shows would be different from each other. The New Year’s Eve event will be “more digital”, he commented, while the one on January is set to be “more on the classic line and with a profusion of aerial shots.”
