BATTLE: The competition heats up down under
Rafa Nadal has landed in Australia, where he will be at the helm of the Spanish team at the 2020 ATP Cup. The Davis Cup winner is a clear favourite in the Australian battle of nations. In a recent interview, team leader Francis Roig praised Nadal’s good form after accompanying the player during his preseason in Mallorca.
Roberto Bautista will play alongside Nadal as they face Japanese Kei Nishikori, Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili and Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas in the RAC Arena in Perth. Also competing for the title are Australian Alex de Miñaur and Serbian Novak Djokovic.
Andy Murray pulled out of the 2020 ATP Cup and Australian Open due to a pelvic injury. The former world number one will not play for team GB and has not been in action since Britain’s opening tie at the David Cup finals.
