A MUM’S death on a family holiday to Tenerife could be linked to an assault in her hometown nearly six weeks earlier, it is feared.
Police are probing whether Megan Brannan, 24, suffered an injury in the attack in Motherwell, Scotland that contributed to her sudden passing. A source said yesterday: “A link is something that is being looked at.”
The family of tragic Megan were in “shock” amid fears her sudden holiday death may not have been from natural causes.
Sources said her grief-stricken relatives suspected she had slipped away through illness during a sunshine break in Tenerife. But it’s claimed they were left reeling as cops questioned whether she suffered an injury in an attack almost six weeks earlier which may have contributed.
An insider said: “Megan was assaulted a few weeks before she went on holiday. There is now an investigation into her death been launched by police in Scotland.
“It is possible her death’s linked to an injury she suffered during the assault. It’s vital police get to the bottom of what happened.
FOUND DEAD IN BED BY HER DAD
“Her family believed it was a tragic death or the result of an illness, so this has come as a complete shock to them. They need answers.”
We told how Megan, of Motherwell, was found in bed by her shocked dad Thomas, 61, on October 14 — two days after a night out during the family break. She had complained of feeling ill. It’s claimed the hairdresser — who had a one-year-old daughter Kaedy — was attacked in her hometown on September 5.
And it is understood the same detectives investigating the assault are also probing her “unexplained” death.
Megan’s sister Toni, 21, previously called her cherished sibling a “mother figure” in an emotional online tribute.
She wrote: “My sister, my role model, my best friend, the light of my life.
“You taught me everything I know, you were a mother figure to me, you did everything you possibly could in your life to make sure I was okay and protected me at all costs.
“We had a bond like no other and no one could ever understand how close we were and I promise I will do exactly that to your precious baby Kaedy.”
Megan used to work in The Highlander Bar in Playa de las Americas, Tenerife. She was in the Canaries with Kaedy, Toni, Thomas and mum Margaret, 57, when she died.
Scotish police have confirmed investigations are continuing into Megan’s “unexplained” death — and that they’re probing claims she was attacked weeks before. A spokesperson said: “Officers are investigating a report of an assault on a 24-year-old woman in Motherwell on September 5.”
