A nine-storey apartment building on the La Fossa beach will be demolished and a 20-storey block put in its place. The project’s promoter, a Javea-based construction company, acquired the building, which fronts on to the Paseo Maritimo and Calle Ponent in August 2017. The existing property occupies a 2,237-square metre site and dates from the1970s. Its apartments are still occupied but the new building will have 38 apartments, with two on each floor and all with sea views. The project is now on public display and its critics have already pointed out that the 20-floor block does not comply with the town hall’s earlier pledge that new buildings in Calpe would be limited to 15 storeys. Meanwhile, Calpe’s mayor Ana Pastor declared that the new building has, “and will have”, all necessary permits.
