ALICANTE-Elche airport recently celebrated the arrival of its 15 millionth passenger which has broken a new historical record.

According to a statement from Aena the 15 millionth passenger arrived on an Easyjet flight from London-Southend airport. Upon disembarking, the lucky traveller was met upon disembarking the plane by the director of Alicante airport Laura Navarro who presented them with various gifts including a pass for the airport’s VIP lounge.

The general director for tourism Herick Campos attended the event and pointed out that this “shared success” highlights the airport as a “fundamental” tourist infrastructure for the Valencian community as through this terminal arrive around 90 per cent of tourists coming from the UK which is the main foreign issuing market.

He also pointed out the importance of the investment of more than €600 million made by the government in Spain in this infrastructure. In addition, Campos recalled that the Airport Council has recognised the airport as the best in Europe in the category of facilities and valued the investments made last year to expand the automation and improve access points in the event of possible situations after Brexit.
