THE National Police have launched a manhunt after a woman was brutally beaten and raped just yards from her doorstep in Almeria, Spain.

As reported by sources close to the investigation, a call was made to the emergency services in the early hours of January 1 to report that they had witnessed a woman being violently robbed on Calle Antonio Gala in the Oliveros district.

Arriving at the scene, responding officers found an unconscious woman lying on the ground, where she showed serious signs of injury. The victim was subsequently rushed to Torrecárdenas University Hospital, where she was placed in the Intensive Care Unit and remains in a coma.

According to medical personnel working at the hospital, the viscous beating has resulted in the woman suffering several broken bones, where a gynaecology examination has also revealed sexual trauma.

The National Police have now launched an investigation to bring the person responsible to justice, however state that they have very little information to work on since the victim is unable to provide any evidence as a result of her grave condition.

Officers are appealing for the witness of the assault to come forward to give a statement, where they are also analysing CCTV footage in the hope that it will provide critical information on the assailant.
