Police end investigation into racist abuse of Tottenham player

Chelsea defender alleged that he heard racist abuse directed towards him during his side's 2-0 win over Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur together with  the Metropolitan Police searched hard to find evidence that could either “corroborate or contradict the allegation”

Tottenham and the Metropolitan Police have closed their investigation into alleged racist abuse aimed at Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.

Neither party has been able to find evidence to either “corroborate or contradict the allegation”, made during Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Spurs on December 22.

Spurs insist that they “fully support” the action taken by Germany international Rudiger during the fixture – reporting hearing monkey chants to Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta, who thus informed match official Anthony Taylor.

Spurs, responded swiftly, launching a full investigation alongside the police.

However, despite an “extensive” investigation, using CCTV and lip readers, the two parties have been unable to identify any perpetrators.

Now the north London club have confirmed that the crime report has been closed, but have once again declared their zero tolerance policy towards “any form of discrimination”.

A statement from Spurs declared: “The Club and the Metropolitan Police have now exhausted all avenues of investigation following the reported incident at our home fixture against Chelsea on 22 December.

“We carried out extensive reviews of CCTV images and footage, working with professional lip readers. All materials and reports have now also been reviewed by the police who have carried out their own investigation.

“The police have notified us today that, having reviewed and investigated, they have closed the crime report as they can find no evidence to support the allegation of racial abuse.
