IT WAS a happy ending for hapless dog Perla after she found herself trapped in a river bed in Madrid when she lost her footing on a sheet of ice and slithering down a steep, rocky slope.
A helicopter rescue crew from the Madrid Community fire service flew to her rescue in the mountainous Collado de los Pastores area.
One of the firefighters was lowered from a rope and within minutes had the surprised-looking pup securely in his arms and being lifted through the air.
In no time Perla had her four paws firmly back on the ground, and totally safe and sound.
