Parking spat sparks off knife attack on off-duty cop in Spain

A SPAT over parking in an Ikea car-park in Madrid turned into a knife attack on an off-duty policeman.

An officer with the National Police’s GEO Special Operations Group was out shopping with his girlfriend in the Alcorcon district of the capital when he got into an argument with a 57-year old man over who had the most claim on a parking space.

The 57-year old suddenly pulled out a knife, managing to slash the cop twice on the neck.

That was when the attack victim revealed he was a policemen and pulled out his regulation weapon to subdue the man, assisted by some other off-duty colleagues.

The aggressor was arrested on charges of attempted homicide, threats and assaulting a police officer.

National Police union JUPOL expressed its “full support for the GEO colleague who suffered an unjustified aggression” on its Twitter feed, along with photos of the injuries to the officer’s neck.

“It is regrettable what happened”, the union added.
