The trial of a woman and a man accused of having their brother, who had an intellectual disability, locked up in inhumane conditions while they collected his pension has started.

A Seville court has heard that he 64-year-old victim, who suffers from catatonic schizophrenia, had been living for years in the loft of the house the three siblings shared. Police officers found him locked up, naked, in appallingly filthy conditions.

The two accused have been charged with crimes of illegal detention and misappropriation of funds from their disabled brother, who was under their guardianship. The prosecution is asking for 17 years in prison for each of them.
