Javea.
JAVEA begins 2020 with fiestas honouring San Antonio, patron saint of animals, and the town’s own patron, San Sebastian.
Next weekend sees the San Antonio fiestas organised by the Peña La Burrera group as well as Javea’s Equestrian Centre, El Tirasset. As it has been doing since 1986, Peña La Burrera is organising the Firai Porrat fair located in Avenida de Palmela, which opened last week and on January 24th, Children’s Day will offer reduced prices on the rides and attractions.
The San Antonio parade through the Duanes neighbourhood coincides with the saint’s feast day on Friday 17th, and will be followed by Mass at 12 noon and a procession to the La Grava promenade where the parish priest will bless pets brought by members of the public. Afterwards, there will be hot chocolate for the children at the fairground.
Meanwhile, El Tirasset is organising the San Antonio bonfire on Saturday, January 18th, as well as the blessing of animals and horses on Sunday. There will be elevenses at the Tirasset premises in Calle San Antonio, followed at 10am by the traditional procession of horses and carts through the town as far as the Port.
The animals will be blessed at approximately 1pm in Plaza de la Constitucion. The San Sebastian fiestas begin on Monday, January 20th with a Desperta “wake-up” call and parade with Mass at 8pm. The fiestas continue with bull-running between Friday, January 24th and Sunday, January 26th, with a Mobile Disco in Plaza de Baix, following each session.
