FEARS are mounting for a British man who has disappeared in Ibiza, Spain, one of the region’s most affected by the Atlantic Storm Gloria.
As reported by the 112 Emergency Services in the Balearic Islands, the 25-year-old man was a crew member on a yacht which docked at Ibiza Port yesterday (January 21). It is understood that he then rented a motorcycle to tour the island.
As the night fell and the man failed to return to the boat, the captain grew extremely worried and raised the alarm with the emergency services. The Guardia Civil located the motorbike beside Cala Portinatx, a beach which lies to the north of the island in the municipality of Sant Joan.
As Euro Weekly News understands, it is suspected that the man may have been engulfed by a high wave and dragged out to sea, although they are not ruling other circumstances out. A search and rescue operation is currently taking place, both on land and in the water, with collaboration from members of the Civil Protection Unit, Guardia Civil and Local Police.

The northern coast of Ibiza, where Cala Portinatx lays, has seen adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Gloria in recent days. Powerful winds and dangerously high sea levels have swept across the coast, where it was advised for individuals to stay away from the seafront due to the grave risk posed.
