YEAR-ROUND appeal was the key message underpinning the Almeria tourist destination promotion at this year’s FITUR international travel fair in Madrid.
The provincial tourist board has highlighted the diversity of the provincial offer, ranging from residential tourism, outdoor activities and culture to nature, science and cuisine, as well as the obvious attractions of sun and sand.
Diputacion de Almeria President Javier A. Garcia underlined the uniqueness of Almeria, which he said means it is a destination which can be enjoyed by visitors 12-months a year, and stressed the provincial administration’s work was centred on addressing the seasonal nature of tourism to the benefit of the tourist and hospitality trade sectors.
Garcia pointed to scientific and industrial tourism as one area with important potential, citing the Calar Alto observatory, the Tabernas solar energy plant and the intensive agriculture cultivations as examples as attractions which it is possible to visit.
Pulpi’s giant geode has attracted a great deal of attention among both travel sector professionals and members of the public at FITUR.
Among the other highlights at the Costa Almeria exhibition space this year have been the presentation for next summer’s Dreambeach staged on the beaches of Villaricos and Palomares, now one of the most important electronic music festivals in Europe.
Also Garrucha’s Gastronomy Festival focused on its famous red prawns and Mojacar’s Night of Candlelight, which last year brought 14,000 people to the village, and its Most Romantic Night, an initiative launched by the Prettiest Village in Spain network.
