ANYONE fancying a twirl round the dance floor to celebrate Valentine’s Day should head to Motril.
The first of what the council said is set to be a repeat event will debut at the Fabrica del Pilar Nave del Azucar on February 14.
Motril Mayor Luisa Maria Chamarro said the decision to organise the ‘Ven a Bailar’ initiative was a response to requests from many older local residents for an opportunity to get together and socialise with friends and enjoy dancing to tunes from their era.
The Mayor also clarified that the event is open to everyone, whether from Motril or elsewhere on the coast.
“Our aim is to encourage and provide leisure space for the elderly”, stressed Citizen Participation councillor Inmaculada Torres Alaminos.
She explained future dances will in many cases be organised to coincide with celebrations and specific anniversaries.
The Valentine’s night dance will be from 8pm until midnight, with live music from the duo Voltaje.
Torres Alaminos promised there will also be a few surprises on the night for anyone who comes dressed in red.
