Helicopter transfer: Helicopter journey from Malaga Clinica Infantil
IN AN unprecedented move for Andalucian public health services a child was transferred by air from Malaga to Barcelona for a transplant whilst connected to an artificial heart.
The boy was taken to a Catalan hospital by helicopter from the helipad located in the Malaga clinic. Due to the delicate state of health of the child, during the journey, they had to be connected to a device that serves as heart and lungs. Although Malaga has a transplant history of more than 40 years, the Regional Hospital does not perform paediatric transplants, so the child had to be referred to the nearest available clinic.
