TIAGO FERREIRA (Portugal) and Hans Becking (Netherlands) were on the Costa Blanca Bike Race’s first stage. Both belong to the DMT Racing Team and dominated the first day, reaching the top of the 895-metre Coll de Povet several seconds ahead of the other mountain biker racers.
Riders then descended through Sacaret, Finestrat’s Font del Moli before reaching the Benidorm endurance section prior to returning to the Altea finishing line. More than 900 riders took part in the sixth edition of the Costa Blanca Bike Race, whose organisers explained that mountain biking is one of the few sports where professionals and amateurs compete together.
This year’s race included Carlos Coloma, bronze medallist in the Rio 2016 Olympics, European champion Tiago Ferreira and Hans Becking, fourth in the International Cycling Union rankings.
