SPAIN’S Policía Nacional chose Benidorm on the Costa Blanca to celebrate the 196th anniversary of the force’s foundation. Ceferino Serrano, the Policia Nacional’s commissioner in Benidorm, hosted the town hall event attended by Benidorm’s mayor Toni Perez, Public Safety councillor Lorenzo Martinez, members of the municipal corporation and representatives from local security forces as well as the judiciary and legal profession.
The Policia Nacional is the successor to the Policia General del Reino (Kingdom’s General Police), Spain’s first police force that was created in 1824.
“The force is one of the world’s most veteran police forces,” Commissioner Serrano said.
“In these 196 years we have changed our name and the colour of our uniform but the essence of the force that was created in 1824 to guarantee public wellbeing and safety lives on in us,” he declared.
