FAMILY RUN Francisco Bakery in Torremolinos has been crowned one of the best in Spain by the Good Bread Route, organised by Club Panatics and Pan de Calidad.

Located in the El Calvario neighbourhood, the bakery has been run by three brothers, Rosi, Sylvia and Francisco Javier Rey González, for more than 30 years.

Mayor of Torremolinos, José Ortiz, visited the shop this morning to meet the family in person.

“We congratulate you all for providing Torremolinos with this important service for so many years. Bread is part of our lives, we all have good bread in our homes, so we must thank you all for the effort, work at night, which is very hard, your will, vocation and the desire to serve customers and our town.

He added: “We are very proud, we wish Francisco Bakery continued success and we will help promote this great product and this neighbourhood of El Calvario that has increasingly integrated in the historic centre of Torremolinos.”

The Good Break Route recognises the top bakeries in the country. The best 80 must make a good traditional bread on site, present it properly in the shop and enjoy a good deal of customers.

Each bakery must offer three equal loaves of 700 and 900 grams, and professionals from the industry decide whether or not the establishment should be granted the ‘Dir-Informatica Star’. Equivalent to a Michelin Star in the world of baking.
