Spain To Hand Over Part Of Its Troops In Iraq To NATO Command

Atlantic Alliance partners respond to Trump’s pressures with a transfer of troops from the international coalition.

Part of the International Coalition troops that are involved in the training of Iraqi forces fighting the terrorist group ISIS (the so-called Islamic State) in that country will be placed under NATO command.

Spain will be involved in this movement by transferring the bulk of the 350 military personnel stationed in Besmayah, some ten kilometres southeast of Baghdad, to the new NATO “umbrella”. A base where, together with troops from countries such as the United Kingdom, Portugal and France, the mission of instructing Iraqi forces is being carried out.
