MOJACAR’S El Bandido Runners turned out in force for the 10th edition of the 10-kilometre ACD Bomberos Levante race in Turre on Sunday.
The 19 El Bandido Runners stood out in their distinctive blue and orange kit among the 160 finishers, with only one other club equalling the number of runners.
Despite the fog and the cooler weather, the ladies excelled with no less than five podium places. Claire Donald finished second female over and first Vet C. There were also age group places for Janine Pollard (second Vet B), Kirsty Ratcliffe (third Vet B), Jan Murton (second Vet C) and Karen Ayers (third Vet C).
A special big cheer and round of applause went to John Ross, the last runner to cross the finish line.
The event was well organised with friendly support and encouragement from the marshalls and fire officers. Post-race, everyone received a commemorative race T-shirt and buff, together with cold beers and paella.

El Bandido Runners is a local group, set up by Ironman Kevin Rowe in June 2018. The group started with a small number of regulars and has grown with runners, joggers and walkers, who are permanent residents, regular visitors and holidaymakers, covering the five-kilometre Mojacar Playa promenade.
The group welcomes all ages, nationalities and speeds. If you are interested in joining them go along on Wednesday and/or Saturday at 9am from October to April and at 8am from May to September.
The meeting point is opposite the Best Indalo Hotel on the Paseo del Mediterraneo, apart from on the first Saturday of each month when they meet at the Red Cross roundabout end of the promenade to be nearer to the the monthly post-run breakfast chosen cafe.
The group is particularly keen to encourage runners and walkers to go along on Saturday March 7 to mark International Women’s Day the following day. They will meet at the Red Cross roundabout end of the promenade, and are hoping to break the record attendance of 43 runners and walkers on New Year’s Day.
