THE Carnival spirit has reached Fuengirola and is now firmly part of the Vive Fuengirola for the Family celebration which has seen more than 20 different events. In theory, the concept of the Carnival goes back several centuries and allowed local residents to have fun and let off steam before they got ready for Easter and the 30 days of Lent where they were expected to give up some of their favourite things and reflect on the death of Christ. The latest entertainment, however, starts Thursday with a children’s carnival party starting at 9.30am at the Elola complex. The main celebrations have been saved for the weekend when a huge party will take place in the Plaza de la Constitución with musical entertainment and the costume contest starting at 8.30pm with some decent cash prizes for the winners. On Sunday, February 23 from noon to 2pm in the Plaza de España and the Avenida Condes de San Isidro it’s the turn of the kids to enjoy their carnival party which will include a large number of special attractions with inflatable castles, a karting area, an educational theatre, different workshops and well-known children’s characters visiting.
