The Platea Group’s Romeo and Juliet took the €2,000 prize for best play in the Costa Blanca town’s Amateur Theatre contest. The same group also won the award for the best stage setting. Best Actress award went to Rocio Reyes from the Malaga-based El Luga theatre group for her role in Un Espiritu Burlon (Blithe Spirit) while Roberto Jifer from Paraskenia Teatro was named Best Actor for Maison Close. El Luga’s Blithe Spirit also won the Best Direction prize. The Amateur Theatre contest has been held each year since 2011, with a €1,000 prize for each of the three finalists. The awards commemorate the local actor, Antonio Ferrer, and continue Calpe’s acting tradition that goes back 100 years, the town hall’s Culture department explained.
