THE French DIY and furniture multinational organised a cleaning operation at Benidorm’s El Moralet on the outskirts of the Costa Blanca resort. This was carried out by around 200 of the firm’s employees in line with Leroy Merlin’s policies of corporate social responsibility, a spokesman explained. The volunteers focused on the wooded area near Benidorm’s Tram station and the nearby public car park, explained environment councillor Monica Gomez, whose department collaborated with the countryside cleanup. “Leroy Merlin itself suggested the operation to round off its national conference that has been taking place at a Benidorm hotel,” Gomez explained. The removed litter was later disposed of by FCC, the concessionary company that cleans Benidorm streets. “We believe in initiatives like these that remind the public of the need to keep our surroundings free of litter, which is why we collaborate both in publicising and helping to develop them,” the councillor added.
