FIRST MEETING: Volunteers ready to protect the environment. Photo credit: Alfaz town hall
TWENTY-FIVE people attended the first meeting of the future Voluntariado Ambiental Local (Environmental Volunteer) group. Creating the volunteers coincides with the 15th anniversary of the Sierra Helada national park and the town hall’s Environment department hopes to enlist local residents who are interested in helping to conserve Alfaz’s natural heritage. Participants of all ages and nationalities were present at the initial meeting, the group’s coordinator Richard Barreno said afterwards. All expressed interest in contributing to improving and conserving Alfaz’ssurroundings by fire-watching, planting trees and native species, collaborating on clean-up operations and organising talks on the town’s natural resources and assets at schools and social centres. Readers interesting in joining the group can do so by contacting Richard Barrena at his rbarreno@lalfas.com email address or the town hall environment department.
