A VERA council project has picked up a prestigious education excellence award.
The Gala Foundation, in collaboration with the Spanish Association of Business Schools, awarded the Education department’s ‘Ventanas al alma’ (Windows to the soul) initiative with the Educational Excellence 2020 for the Best Educational and Social Action Programme in Public Administration.
This is the first time the local authority has received the distinction.
It follows the award organisers’ exhaustive analysis of the practices and functioning of thousands of business schools, universities and education centres at international level.
The council expert who designed and implemented the project, Varnira Martinez, explained Ventanas al Alma is a psychosocial programme first launched in 2015 focusing on childhood and adolescence in different areas in Vera and surrounding villages, serving as support for both schools and families.
It is a multi-method project covering a range of matters. These include preventing and controlling school absenteeism and bullying, conflict resolution, entrance into the labour market, and the integration of minors at risk of social exclusion.
Among the most important activities featured in the programme is the Education, Family and School Day orientated towards school management, teachers, parents, experts from public and private entities and politicians.
In 2016 Ventanas al alma received an award from the Education Ministry and the FEMP Spanish Federation of Municipalities for being an innovative multi-level project.
Vera will officially be presented with the education excellence award at a ceremony in Madrid on March 17.
In the meantime, Vera Mayor Jose Carmelo Jorge Blanco has congratulated Varnira Martinez and Vera Education councillor Carolina Perez.
