CABRERA Lawn Bowls Club dominated the podium places at this weekend’s Barry Woods Open Mixed Pairs competition, which it also hosted.
As the title of the competition suggests it is open to all other clubs to enter.
The competition was played on a round-robin basis with two groups of 10 teams. Each team played nine matches over the weekend and the winners of each group played in the final. Each match was over eight ends and played against a timer. Three points were awarded for a win, one point for a draw and also a point for every end won
The winners of group A were Ian and Janet Jackson from Cabrera LBC and the winners of group B were Malcolm and Jean Smallwood, also from Cabrera LBC.
After eight ends the score was level at 6-6 so both teams got one point for a draw. However as Ian and Janet had won five of the eight ends and Malcolm and Jean won three, the final score was 6-4 to Ian and Janet making them the winners.
Barry Woods, a founder member of Cabrera, who was for many years club president, sponsored the competition.
Cabrera LBC put out a big thank you to all the organisers and spectators who made this event the great success it was. The weather also played an important part as it was absolutely fabulous.
