Empowered women join forces on the Costa Blanca

THE Mi Lucha, Nuestra Lucha (My battle, our battle) exhibition has now arrived at the health centre of the Costa Blanca town of Alfaz. The exhibition organised by the Madrid branch of Medicos del Mundo (Doctors of the World) sets out to bring home the reality of female genital mutilation (FGM) that threatens the health and wellbeing of millions of women worldwide. The photographs taken by Camila Espinel were first displayed last month in Alfaz’s Casa de Cultura to coincide with International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. Espinel explained that the photographs show a group of empowered African women who decided to join forces against a practice that seeks to control and suppress them. The itinerant exhibition will later travel to other Marina Baja health centres.
