The Lions go to the dogs on the Costa del Sol Spain

Presentation of the cheque Credit: La Cala de Mijas Lions

AT their most recent club meeting, the president of the La Cala de Mijas Lions Anita Humphreys presented a cheque in the sum of €1000 to Jacqui Ross  from the Last Chance Dog Charity, which is based in Pizarra about 30 kilometres above Malaga City.

After the presentation, Jacqui gave a brief talk to the Lions on the new set up at Last Chance after the closure of Animals in Distress, FAMA and other animal rescue centres.

She advised that over the last year, there had been an increase of 60 per cent in abandoned dogs in the area but the two kennels they have taken over from Animals in Distress will help cope with this increase.

Last Chance is in the process of improving its facilities in Pizarra and is planning to introduce a program of education to try to reduce the continual rise of abandoned animals and hopes to be able to introduce a program of sterilisation at an affordable price.

The money given by the Lions will be used to cover the expensive vets bills that Last Chance is regularly faced with.
