GRETA THUNBERG: Voice of the children.
Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg, 17, led a demonstration in Bristol last week. The young activist rallied thousands of people, many of them her age, to the event held at College Green. During her speech she said:
“World leaders are behaving like children, so we have to be the adults.”
During the day of the demonstration it rained, and the thousands of people who had joined Greta Thunberg’s cause, demonstrating for the environment, made the lawn at College green a big, muddy mess.
“They call themselves green campaigners and then create this mess without a thought for the feelings for others. Most of them probably came from outside Bristol so they don’t care a hoot.” wrote one person on Twitter.
A Go Fund Me campaign was opened with the objective to raise €23,000 to replace the lawn of College Green. Within three days, €16,000 was raised.
“We will assess the damage next week,” tweets Bristol City Council. “If there are any funds left over after repairs, we will use it for wildflower areas across the city.”
