The Civil Guard in Torrevieja (Alicante) have arrested a 40-year-old man for the alleged murder of his 81-year-old mother, after beating her to death with a baseball bat.
According to sources close to the investigation, both lived together in the house in which the incident occurred, apparently, they had a very bad relationship.
The detainee is a Belgian National and both he and his mother have Spanish surnames, although he has not been able to confirm his true nationality.
Local police from Torrevieja quickly arrived at the house, located in the San Luis urbanization, an area on the outside of the city in which mostly foreign citizens live.
Once there, the officers found the victim kneeling on the floor and with her body resting on the bed, she had been dead for hours
The sources also mentioned that the house was completely wrecked and there were obvious signs of violence.
After a short search of the property, the police found the weapon used in the assault, a “bloodied” Baseball Bat.
The suspect was arrested immediately, the case continues and a trial date has yet to be set.
