Arsenal has confirmed that midfielder Lucas Torreira has suffered a broken ankle.
The Uruguayan midfielder was taken off on a stretcher during Monday’s FA Cup win over Portsmouth.
Torreira was caught in a heavy challenge after just 12 minutes of the 2-0 success, and played no further part in proceedings. A group of home fans could be heard chanting: “You’re going home in an ambulance” as he received treatment.
He underwent further tests at Fratton Park, before leaving post-game on crutches, wearing a protective boot.
Arsenal faced an anxious waiting before discovering the full severity of his injury and it has now been revealed that the combative 24-year-old suffered a broken bone.
A club statement declared that they are “awaiting further specialist reviews which will determine a recovery plan.”
