A 57-YEAR-OLD Algerian arrested by Calpe’s Guardia Civil faces 15 charges of housebreaking in the Costa Blanca area. He was arrested after a spate of robberies from villas on urbanisations where doors and windows were jemmied open. Officers who stopped a van occupied by two men found that the police database revealed one of them had a police record with 21 different aliases, all given for breaking and entering offences. The arrested man was living irregularly in Spain and with each arrest, provided different details hoping to prevent further enquiries. An Alicante Court had also issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with several house robberies in Campello. Searching the van, the Guardia Civil officers found a large screwdriver which he allegedly used force an entry into the homes he targeted. They also discovered 6,850 Russian roubles (approximately €91) which he was unable to account for. The Algerian was brought before the judge and, after being charged, was released awaiting trial.
