Easter celebrations in Malaga on Costa del Sol in Spain is at risk of being cancelled. Regions in the North of Spain have already asked the government for permission to suspend the Easter celebrations, which in Spain entails week-long procession and gathering of large masses.

The film festival in Málaga has already been postponed until June, and now people are wondering if one of Spain’s biggest holiday celebrations will be next.

“We hope that similar measures won’t have to be taken so that the Easter processions in Málaga will be cancelled,” says the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre.

“We are the ones who make the decision if there will be any processions or not, but of course we follow the regional and national guidelines coming from the government,” he emphasises.
