Tourists who plan to visit Spain change destinations as they can’t make bookings so select other destinations

WITH a slump and recession predicted for Spain’s main areas that rely on tourism, tourists who planned to visit have given up trying to make bookings and have selected other destinations.

As reported last week many hotels do not have their booking operations live or their reservation centres open either online or by telephone making it impossible for potential customers to book, John Letby for instance contacted the Euro Weekly News to explain how he gave up and selected Turkey who were only too happy to take his booking:

“Was going to book in September for a month, no joy have now booked Turkey for same period couldn’t have been more helpful. And only wanted £100 deposit to secure. Have always found Turkish people to be more friendly and accommodating than the Spanish, they have made a big mistake,” wrote John.

Meanwhile Ed Jones who normally books Benalmadena five times a year told the Euro Weekly News:

“I’ve given up trying to make a booking, it’s near on impossible, I’ve spoken to the wife Sharon and we after 12 years are going to give elsewhere a go, so far I’ve booked Cyprus, Corfu and just about to book Greece. Spain’s been my favourite for years but I just can’t make any bookings, it’s crazy, ok there’s a shutdown on, I get that, but you think as a business they would be prepared to take our money. We just read about how they are suffering and we were prepared to book up and offer support during these times but the Spanish don’t seem to want it, so this year it’s new destinations for us.”

Navid wrote in and said “Shoot themselves in the foot and then blame the tourists… typical.”

“That is rubbish! The virus won’t be gone by June or July the way it’s going. We love Spain but won’t be back, or anywhere else, until all the world has got over the disease. It gives the hotels false hope,” said Christine Gregory who feels tourists are giving hotels false hope.
